Well I could write many books about my history and the ups and downs of business and life as a Greengrocer, perhaps oneday I will publish some stories for entertainment and even education.
Anyway it all started back in the late 70's when as a schoolboy I had a Saturday and evening job in a hardware store. I wonder if any of you remember it. Home Service at the top of St Aubyns Road near the bottom of George Street Hove, it's long gone now. Anyway we used to sell a few vegtables there, I remember I used to bag the sprouts up to save time when the customers came in. Within a few months of working there I knew all about self tapping screws, could cut any key and as for the parrafin that was a doddle. One day the manager asked me if I would like to open and run a fruit and veg shop for him. I was quite excited about it although I was just about to leave school and didn't really know my future. I always expected to go and work for a company starting at the bottom and working my way to the top. Eventually we opened the shop on Western Road in june 1981. The first day was great. I contined working there for a few months but then decided to take a business course at college but at the same time landed a job in an estate agents. Then I made a really strange desision I decided to take the job but college started two days before. I ended up going to college a day late and not taking the job. I continued working in the fruit shop every evening, Saturdays and Sundays.
By the time The College course was four months in I had decided and negotiated to take over the fruit shop. I left college but still managed to go back and pass the exams so that was good and took over the shop in June 1982. I managed to double the takings within three months.
Ok I think I better get on with the rest of the site there is still mountains to do there. Keep a look out here there is loads of history COMING SOON!
